Dry Needling

Target the source of pain and tension with expert dry needling.

Muscle tightness and protective spasms often develop after injury or overuse which creates pain and restricts movement.
Dry needling is an effective technique that helps release tight muscle fibres, improve blood flow, and promote your body’s natural healing process.

Our physiotherapists are formally trained in safe and advanced dry needling techniques.
We often integrate it with manual therapy and exercise prescription to enhance recovery and help you move with confidence again.

How does dry needling work?

Dry needling uses very fine, sterile needles to target myofascial trigger points - specific areas within a muscle that cause pain and tightness.

When the needle stimulates these points, it can produce a small, quick contraction known as a “twitch response.”

This helps reset the muscle, relieve tension, and improve circulation to aid healing.

The technique also triggers the body’s natural repair process, promoting recovery of affected tissues and reducing referred pain patterns.

Conditions commonly supported with dry needling

Neck and shoulder tension

Lower back pain and gluteal tightness

Chronic pain or movement restriction

Headaches and jaw tension

Sports-related muscle strains

Tendinopathy and overuse injuries

What to expect during your session

01

Comprehensive Assessment

We begin with a comprehensive assessment to identify the source of your pain and confirm that dry needling is appropriate for your condition.

03

 Needle Application

Using a fine guide tube, your physiotherapist inserts the needles gently into targeted areas. You may feel a brief muscle twitch or mild ache, but this is a normal response indicating the muscle is releasing tension.

02

Preparation

We use individually sealed, sterile needles and prepare the skin using aseptic technique to ensure your safety.

 Integrating Care

04

Dry needling is most effective when combined with exercise and manual therapy. Your physiotherapist will guide you through follow-up movement or stretching strategies to maximise results.
